Chhath Puja is unique Indian festival dedicated to to Solar dieting Surya and Shashti Devi. It is celebrated to thank them for sustaining live on Earth .Believed to be the god of light Surya and Shashti Devi are worshiped on this day for prompting life well being and prosperity  of human being.

 

 Celebrated  week after Diwali, chhath Puja has unique significance in Indian culture specially in the Bihar Jharkhand and uttar pradesh reason. Actually the people of these states are residing on different different states they are also celebrating this Holi chhath puja there. Devotees expose themselves to direct sunlight on this day as they believe that the sun is also a source of healing and helps to cure many illness and diseases.

Devotees express gratitude to lord Surya and perform rituals for 4 days . Chhath in the Hindi language means six. Hence the festival celebrated on the 6th day of of month of kartika month.

Significance of chhath puja

 

As stated earlier sun is believed to be primary source of energy therefore people celebrated these day to thank lord Surya and his wife for bestowing life upon them. Chhath Puja has a significant mention in Indian mythological scriptures as well.

 

According to Mahabharata lord Surya son karna was the first person to perform chhath puja ,he offered a prayer the lord Surya while standing in water and exposing is body and  later hi also offer food to the needy. It is also said that Pandav was also for form this ritual to regain their Kingdom from the the Kaurva's.

 

Rituals performed during chhath puja

 

Unlike other Hindu rituals chhath Puja is four-day event .These four days event include taking holy bath at the river, fasting, preparing and offering prasad and araghya to  the sun during sunrise.

 

The first day of chhath Puja is called the Nahai Khsai. It's literate meaning is bathing and eating, the devotees on the first day bath in the water bodies, after that they prepare the traditional Prasad like thkeua, pudi  etc,the ladies are always the first ones to eat the Prasad and after that the whole family other relatives were eat prasad.

On the second day that devotees observe fast until dusk. people  ends fast only after sunset. They don't eat or drink anything before sunset after worshipping lord Surya on this day and ending their fast people again observe a fast for 36 hours.

 

On the third day of Pooja ladies mostly wear yellow sarees and prepare food which is letter of offered to the sun.The day goes without eating and drinking anything as a part of 36 hour long fast .Ladies take it deep into the water , and oofer fruits to the setting sun.

 

On the last day of Puja, that is what they people gather on the bank of the river during sunrise. Prasad is offer to the rising Sun and then after perform all the rituals after that people break their fast by eating Prasad.

छठ पूजा एक अनूठा भारतीय त्योहार है जो सौर डाइटिंग सूर्य और षष्ठी देवी को समर्पित है। यह पृथ्वी पर जीवित रहने के लिए उन्हें धन्यवाद देने के लिए मनाया जाता है। प्रकाश के देवता माने जाने वाले सूर्य और षष्ठी देवी की पूजा इस दिन जीवन की भलाई और मानव की समृद्धि को बढ़ावा देने के लिए की जाती है। 

दिवाली के बाद मनाया जाने वाला छठ पूजा भारतीय संस्कृति में विशेष रूप से बिहार झारखंड और उत्तर प्रदेश में अद्वितीय महत्व रखता है। दरअसल इन राज्यों के लोग अलग-अलग राज्यों में रह रहे हैं और वे वहां यह होली छठ पूजा भी मना रहे हैं। भक्त इस दिन सीधे सूर्य के प्रकाश के संपर्क में आते हैं क्योंकि उनका मानना ​​है कि सूर्य भी उपचार का एक स्रोत है और कई बीमारियों और बीमारियों को ठीक करने में मदद करता है।

भक्त भगवान सूर्य का आभार व्यक्त करते हैं और 4 दिनों तक अनुष्ठान करते हैं। हिंदी भाषा में छठ का मतलब छह होता है। इसलिए यह पर्व कार्तिक मास की षष्ठी तिथि को मनाया जाता है।

छठ पूजा का महत्व:-
 
जैसा कि पहले कहा गया है कि सूर्य को ऊर्जा का प्राथमिक स्रोत माना जाता है, इसलिए लोगों ने इस दिन को भगवान सूर्य और उनकी पत्नी को जीवन देने के लिए धन्यवाद देने के लिए मनाया। छठ पूजा का भारतीय पौराणिक शास्त्रों में भी महत्वपूर्ण उल्लेख है। 

महाभारत के भगवान सूर्य पुत्र कर्ण के अनुसार छठ पूजा करने वाले पहले व्यक्ति थे, उन्होंने पानी में खड़े होकर भगवान सूर्य की प्रार्थना की और शरीर को उजागर किया और बाद में जरूरतमंदों को भोजन भी दिया। यह भी कहा जाता है कि कौरवों से अपना राज्य वापस पाने के लिए पांडव भी इस अनुष्ठान के लिए थे।
 
छठ पूजा के दौरान किए गए अनुष्ठान
 
अन्य हिंदू अनुष्ठानों के विपरीत छठ पूजा चार दिवसीय आयोजन है। इन चार दिनों की घटना में नदी में पवित्र स्नान करना, उपवास करना, सूर्योदय के दौरान प्रसाद और अर्घ्य तैयार करना और सूर्य को अर्पित करना शामिल है।
 
छठ पूजा के पहले दिन को नहाई खास कहा जाता है। इसका साक्षर अर्थ है नहाना और खाना, भक्त पहले दिन जल निकायों में स्नान करते हैं, उसके बाद वे पारंपरिक प्रसाद जैसे ठकेउआ, पूड़ी आदि तैयार करते हैं, प्रसाद को सबसे पहले महिलाएं ही खाती हैं और उसके बाद पूरा परिवार अन्य रिश्तेदार प्रसाद खाते है। 

दूसरे दिन भक्त शाम तक उपवास रखते हैं। लोग सूर्यास्त के बाद ही उपवास समाप्त करते हैं। वे इस दिन भगवान सूर्य की पूजा करने के बाद सूर्यास्त से पहले कुछ भी नहीं खाते-पीते हैं और अपना उपवास समाप्त करते हुए लोग फिर से 36 घंटे का उपवास रखते हैं।
 
पूजा के तीसरे दिन महिलाएं ज्यादातर पीली साड़ी पहनती हैं और भोजन तैयार करती हैं जो कि सूर्य को अर्पित किया जाता है। 36 घंटे के उपवास के हिस्से के रूप में दिन बिना कुछ खाए-पिए बीत जाता है। महिलाएं इसे गहरे पानी में ले जाती हैं, और ऊफर डूबते सूरज को फल।
 
पूजा के अंतिम दिन, यानी सूर्योदय के समय लोग नदी के तट पर इकट्ठा होते हैं। उगते सूर्य को प्रसाद दिया जाता है और फिर सभी अनुष्ठान करने के बाद लोग प्रसाद खाकर अपना उपवास तोड़ते हैं।

व्रत रखने वाले लोगों के लिए आज का बहुत ही स्वादिष्ट व्यंजन बनाया गया है और इस तरह छठ पूजा का चार दिवसीय उत्सव समाप्त होता है।
